As the owner of several hairy pets I began a
search on the Internet for the best pet hair vacuum cleaner. The nice thing
about the Internet is that you can look past the manufacturers claims and find
reviews from actual consumers. Just because a vacuum cleaner can pick up a
bowling ball doesn't mean it can pick up pet hair. Really, how many of us need
to vacuum bowling balls or nuts and bolts off our carpet?
Vacuums that are great on carpet may not do as
good a job on hardwood or tile floors. That is why many of us own more than one
type of vacuum or floor cleaner. Hopefully this site will help you decide which
type of floor cleaner is best for your particular situation. Remember when you
post your own review to mention the type of floors you are using your vacuum or
floor cleaner on. Listed on this site are the top rated vacuums from many
different companies. Consumer robots are also featured here and new ones will
be added as they become available. Time for the machines to do the work, while
we go out and play.
The first unusual thing I found was a
vapor steam cleaner from
Euro-Pro. I got to looking at this carpet/floor cleaner and noticed that it put
out water but had no method of extraction. Turns out it doesn't need to extract
because it does not soak your carpet like a traditional carpet cleaner. The
vapor steam cleaner heats water to 240 degrees and puts out steam for cleaning
carpet, tile, grout, windows and almost any surface you can imagine. The heat
helps to kill dust mites. There is no scrubbing action so I would still like a
regular carpet cleaner in addition to this. These type of units have been
available in Europe for years and only recently have become available in the
U.S. Smaller handheld units are available for kitchen and tile cleaning.
A top seller during Christmas of 2002 & 2003 was the Roomba
Robot Vacuum from
iRobot, the same company that makes industrial robots
for the government. This is an affordable robotic carpet
sweeper that received rave reviews from
customers. It will wander around and clean your carpet
and flooring while you do other things. July of 2004
Irobot introduced the more powerful Roomba
Discovery Series of robot vacuums.
Beyond my budget but certainly on my dream list is the
Karcher robot vacuum. This sucker can
empty itself into
it's charging and storage bin. This means it could really
vacuum the whole house without my intervention. Having
a house full of pet hair means the dirt bin in small robot
will fill up quickly.
The Shark Cordless Sweeper has been
the number one selling product on Amazon for awhile. It is a lightweight carpet
sweeper and is great for quick cleanups between your regular vacuuming and it
works on pet hair. I prefer it to the Roomba sweeper because it is cheaper and
you can just hit the bad spots, you don't have to clean your entire carpet.
Since I live in a small house this is all I need. For a large home the Roomba
would be more useful.
The Dyson DC07
Animal vacuum developed in England especially for pet owners is
now available in the U.S. Dyson was the one who developed
the technology for the
Fantom Fury. Dyson developed over 5,000 prototypes in
the creation of the Dyson Cyclone. It is the first vacuum
that doesn't loose suction as it fills with
dirt. A bit on the pricey side but it comes with a 2
year warranty. This one is no longer on my wish list,
I finally bought it! I love it.
If you want a vacuum under $150.00 that is good on pet
hair check out the Eureka 4870 DT. It has great reviews
but they say it is a bit on the heavy side. It also uses
bags which can get expensive if you have lots pet hair
and fill the bags quickly. |
